Well, I've only played the demo, but here's my review anyway.

Graphically very nice, not eyepopping stunning, but very nice.

It doesn't support joystick play, which really annoyed me in the beginning, as I wanted to play with a joystick.
But after I while I tried the demo anyway and even though it took a bit of practice, mouse only play is pretty good if you play in the 3rd person perspective.

It's cool how when you're traveling long distances you can go really fast and still steer, but not fire.

The jumpgates look pretty good.

There does seem to be some sort of story you're gonna end up following, which I finished pretty fast in the demo, but you can go your own way as well, which was nice.

You earn money by trading or taking missions, which seem mostly to go out and kill certain people, who will almost certianly have buddies with them you need to kill as well.

You can of course upgrade your equipment and buy better ships and stuff, but what you can buy is also limited by your Character "level", a sort of rating that progresses as you do stuff in game (like in Elite).

All in all, nothing revolutionary here, a bit odd how there's just NO joystick support, but it's done quite well, so no problems there.

I'd give it 8 out of 10.

There are lots of secret areas in the demo that not many people have seen: Rochester Base by the Junkers (near Planet Manhatten), Buffalo Base (Liberty Rogue Base), five ship wrecks (4 carrying weapons, and the 5th carrying ccontraband or caradmine drugs), & a minefield hiding the location of a hidden jumpgate.

If you like it, get the Full Version.
-The story is pretty good (borrows parts from other sci fis here and there), and leaves room for a sequel. T
-The sheer number of star systems (40) out there is amazing and you have about 300+ hours of exploring to do if you want to see everything (ship wrecks, unknown systems, radioactiave novas, minefields, battlefields, battleships galore, construction zones, metropolitan areas, asteroid bases, alien organism covered asteroids, etc).
-50 different factions with 2000 NPCs to befriend, betray, and do business with.
-3000 trade routes
-31 pilotable vessels

That's how much gameplay you get from Freelancer.

OK, I'm pleased there's lots of gameplay in it then...
300 hours eh?
Sounds nice.

I will probably buy it next month.
