And as we wind on down the road Our shadows taller than our soul
/me starts sobbing ...
Perhaps this is a little beyond my expertise at this juncture but uh ... how the f*** is that even possible?!? I tried just "basic 7 chords" instead:
code: Am G etc
|-0------------3----------------|-
|-1------------0----------------|-
|-2------------0----------------|-
|-2------------0----------------|-
|-0------------2----------------|-
|--------------3----------------|-
And as we wind on down the road ...
... and it just doesn't sound right at all.
How the heck do ya get yer fingers on those chords?!? Can anyone gimmie a "finger layout"?
Yes, I know Stairway to Heaven is sooooooo cliche ... but I just gotta.

use your first finger totally FLAT to the fretboard for all '5's and then use ring finger for the lower '7' and little finger for higher '7'
its hard at first to get the first finger flat right down, but keep trying and you'll get it

lol i remember how painful bar chords were at first

Yep barre chords are a bitch to learn at first, but afterwards it becomes so natural you wonder how you could have ever had a problem with it. And playing the "major" versions of those Am and G chords should have been fairly close, so it couldn't have sounded THAT bad.

Oh okay. Thanx.

eh ... it just didn't sound like "it".

It probably doesn't sound like it because you aren't doing the string rakes, signified with would should be xxxxxxx's during that part of the song.

'Scuse my ignorance but does that mean muffling the strings and strumming?

Affirmative.

awesome riff once you learn barre chords.
i cant play those chords without singing the solo out loud.
