New amp..

Laney VC30. All tube.

Based on the Vox AC30, it's a fantastic sounding amp. Tried it in the Roadhouse the other day. The OD channel isn't heavy enough for some stuff so I'll likely save for an ME-50 or simialar.

Here's the best part.. I got it new for 200 quid off ebay.. The shop price is 449.

It's perfect for Weezer/QOTSA/Foo tones.

Cheers Fuzz. More saving ahead now.

BTW.. Gave up on digital tones. Personally I thought they sounded great.. But not only were they a hassle to amplify, many people said they couldn't cut it in a band situation.

Gonna stick with the tried n' tested method.. Guitar > Pedal(s) > Tube Amp. Simple, loud and sounds good.

For THAT you're getting a huge from over here...

Nice buy tho.

Well.. The condition of the PA at some of the venues round here is questionable Rez. Straight into a guitar amp with a POD is hit and miss, or I could have chose to run through a keyboard amp but that was more expense and a long drive etc. Many guitarists said they didn't know what the exact problem was, but in a live situation the POD had a hard time cutting through.

Modellers can't cut through live = Myth

Most people think this because they make all their patches at bedroom level and expect them to sound the same when cranked to gig level. Sorry, not gonna happen.

not really a myth if you try to use one live and it sucks ass

better hope to get a nice long soundcheck

Many people do, and don't seem to have problems. If they were brutal live, I don't think they would sell so many.

People with PODs over at the Line6 forums who do live stuff have a gig preset and "bedroom" preset for each patch they use. It's important. I won't disagree that it might be a little more high maintenance, but once you have it setup proper, it should only take minor tweaking at soundcheck from venue to venue.

well you must be used to playing steakhouses or something, because all venues I ever played were like "okay there's power to the stage, you guys ready?" when it came to soundcheck.

Don't get me started on punk that only has a clean and drive channel setup. Some people like to have more.

Yeah that one song sounded killer, I'm just saying some people prefer more than one clean and one crunch option.
