Water itself isn't too hard (thanks to many tutorials), but I'd like to be able to do rain too... without having to rely on 3d rendering.

A basic water/waterdrop effect for anyone who hasn't done it before:
1) Start with a soft, cloud like base texture (Filter->Render->Clouds if you don't have your own).

2) Add a blur (usually radial blur).

3) Add some depth and shadow Filter->Sketch->Bas Relief

As for making a rain effect... I'm clueless. I'd like to see that too

Nice tutorials there, Ritsui.

There's a great water drop tutorial that comes with Photoshop CS.

Fortunately, it's also available on the web:

Go here, then click the link "technique", and you will see the "RainDrops" tutorial link.

The great thing about this, is that you can save the water drop layer as a style, and use it later without having to go through the steps again for each new image.

You can also use chrome as the final step, I like the effects of that

I've done it before making the full rain effect... but remebering how right now might be a challenge. I'll try and dig up the tut I used a year or two ago and post it.

Nice tut John, but I was looking for something more of a rain effect.
