I recently updated all the drivers for my sound card. For the longest time I was using WinXP default drivers.
Anyway, I update the drivers and the sound and new options I get are nice. The only problem I get is when I play UT2k4 and on Vent at the same time. First, my sound starts cutting in and out. It does this for about 2-3 minutes and then it completely crashes. No more voice, no more sound. Just me and the silence. Now if I close out UT2k4, sometimes it helps and sometimes it doesn't. I say helps loosely...
It helps in the fact that I can now hear people in Vent...
BUT, what I am hearing is the conversation that happened 5 or so minutes ago. With the mixture of current conversations.
Where is this speech storing at? Is it storing itself in my RAM? Is there some sort of buffer somewhere?
It's annoying and I don't want to deal with it. I want to keep my current drivers cause I like the new options and GUI interface software.
So my questions are:
1. Has anyone encountered similar issues like this before? If so, what did you do to remedy it?
2. Would it be a driver issue. (stupid question I know, but maybe it's just some sort of setting that can be fixed in the new software... since I am a noob and I have never used the software before.)
3. Is anyone real familiar with the settings to optimize headset, mic and UT2k4. Surely I am not the only one who ownz an Audigy and plays UT2k4 using a headphone and a mic.

the issue you are speaking of is a driver issue, creative sucks with creating drivers that will do what they say. It is a problem that plags all the 5.1 cards. There is a alternative drivers out there, thou the last time i checked (which was about a year and a half ago) they hadn't start doing support for video games.
As for the mic and headset setup, your best bet is to talk to USe (Wfs) on enterthegame.com #wfs, we all have had lots of dealings with voice comm during games, and we can help you out
