Very nice setup. Not sure I could go without floppy just yet. I still use it every once in a while, but its fast getting replaced by USB key.

Thanks. I can't wait to see if my lag issues with 150 player servers in Joint Ops disappear with this faster rig. (currently running an AthlonXP 2600 and a GeForce4 Ti4600).
I'm thinking the floppy issue won't be a big deal, since the OS CDs are bootable. Worst case scenario I harvest one out of my other 2 PCs.

Floppy is pretty useful for bios updates or some of those rescue disks made by some apps.

I think the nForce3 uses some sort of "LiveUpdate" or something. I guess I'll find out, and it's no big deal to add it later.

I have a floppy, but I prefer to do my BIOS updates from a bootable CD. CDs are more reliable, and I am running out of floppies...
Rescue disks are another matter though, since those apps usually insist that you make a floppy even if you have a dozen of other bootable media around. Pretty lame imho...

You may need a floppy drive to install your SATA drivers. When Windows installation starts up, hit F6 when prompted for RAID or other disk drivers. Later on, you'll be asked to insert the driver disk.
[edit] nm, I see your box is up and running.

Yeah - the great irony of a very recent technology requiring a totally obsolete technology in order to work at all.
tbh, it's Microsoft's lame install method which is at fault. I don't see why the WinXP install CD doesn't have a real working OS which allows you to use an external USB or network device (or even the Internet) to fetch drivers or create a virtual RAM disk for the installation process.

Well last night I met disaster when attempting to update the BIOS via MSI's LiveUpdate software from Windows. The end result: a completely destroyed Windows installation and the loss of many hours.

But it didnt destroy the MB right?

No, I'm happy to say it's back up and running. It's also set up better than I had it the first time. You see:
The first time I had the IDE drive and the SATA drive installed at the time of loading Windows. I wanted the SATA to be the C drive. It never gave me the option, and called the IDE drive C and the SATA drive D. Windows went on D, but it called the C drive the system drive and wouldn't let me change its letter.
THIS time I was ready for it, so I removed the IDE drive until AFTER Windows was already loaded. As far as I can tell, that is the only way to get your SATA drive recognized as C.
