CD drive problem

A couple of minutes ago, my puter froze with a CD in the drive. I pressed the reset button which I did quite often. Then, when it booted up, I had one of those popup boxes saying it found a new cd rom drive. It could not read the contents of the CD, neither eject it. When I pressed the eject button, the green light just flashed a couple of times and nothing happened. I turned the machine off, and manually ejected the CD (the little button you press with a paperclip). When it booted up again, it could not get the tray in either, and the light just kept flashing for 5 seconds every time I was trying to send it a command.

Could be there something wrong with a chip inside, or could it just be a part that got in the way of the mechanism that I could go inside and fix? I don't think it has any warranty left on it.

Never had any problems before? Is it just a regular CD drive? It might just be dead, which isn't too big of a deal since a DVD-Rom costs about $30.

Well, I bought it last year, It's a LiteOn 52x24x52x burner. Had no problems with it until now. The BIOS detects it, windows detects it, but it ain't spinning. I think I will take a look inside just to see if it's not in the electronics, if I don't find anything odd, I'll just buy a new one.

Kickass!

Took it out, took it apart, wiped whatever dust it had on it, moved the tray back and forth, shook it a couple of times, put it back in, booted up......... Voila!

Glad to hear it. Consider yourself lucky.
