System Idle Process...(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

... what is that?!? I opened my Windows Task Manager, and Folding is a process that takes 50% of CPU, while "System Idle Process" takes the other 50%.
I don't have any other apps running, except my web browser so I can post this question.
Can I kill the "System Idle Process"?

Hehe no.
The system idle process is window's way of telling you how much of the CPU is idle. If your system is running absolutely nothing at all, the system idle process will be 99% and the CPU graph 0%.
But why is fah running at 50%? Do you have a P4 with HT enabled?

I have a P4, but how do I enable hyperthreading?

My guess is HT is enabled hence the 50% usage. HT does a Jedi mindtrick on the OS making it belive you have 2 CPUs. In taskman, do you see 2 CPU graphs?

shite, I do have 2 CPU graphs. Now, how can I set up 2 folding WU's at once?

Stop your current client. Edit the shortcut and add the -local flag after fah4console.exe. I assume machine ID allready is 1 on this one, but check anyway.
Download a new client into a new dir like c:\folding2.
Client 2 MUST be the console version.
Run this new client with the -configonly flag. Enter same username and team. Enter advanced setup and set machine ID 2.
Create a shortcut, call it folding2 and add the -local flag to this one too.
Start both clients. If they work on 2 different WUs then everything is OK. Same project is OK as long as (run, gen, clone) numbers differ. If not, something is wrong.
Remember, you still have only 1 physical CPU so frametimes will increase, but overall ppw will be the same maybe even better.

Hmm, did you remember to run from 2 different dirs with 2 different clients setup as ID 1 and ID 2 with -local flag on both?

tried again, got a gromacs. All good now.

So both WUs are different?
Posted by: smeerkat
One is a tinker, using FAH_65.exe, the other is a gromacs, using FAH_78.exe.
In the Task Manager, I see two CPU graphs, and my total CPU usage is 100% instead of 50.
Now, how much slower will each WU be?
Posted by: ArcticRaider
Excellent.
Half the speed but it might be better ppw than with just one client.
Those 2 clients might finish those 2 WUs before 1 client running alone finishing 2 WUs after each other. And with 2 clients running you will almost always have work to do in case some of the servers are down.

Temperatures:
CPU: 54 Celsius
Mobo: 38 Celsius
Is this okay?

Dunno, I'm not familiar with P4 temps.

The dual WU thing is working like a charm. And my CPU temperature is still steady at 54.

Five days later, my PC is still the same temp.

2 weeks later, still the same temperature. And it's been on 24/7.
