Microphone Port died

About 2 weeks ago I yanked the Audigy 1 out of my athlonXP 2600 system and started using the onboard sound of the Asus A78NX Deluxe mobo.

Everything was great, but then 2 nights ago my microphone suddenly stopped working. I just re-installed the drivers, but no go.

Any ideas? Or is the port on the mobo just plain dead?

Could be your mic that's dead also. Try it on another machine.

It's not the mic, I tried 2 different ones.

I presume you wiggled the connector around a bit to make sure?

If it's really dead, there's probably very little you can do about it unless you're good with a soldering iron... but I'd still do the old "WTF Creative" thing and try it in a new PCI slot before getting rid of it. I don't know what causes it, but I've seen both channel distortion and dropout problems solved just by moving PCI slots.

Can't change the slot, it's onboard sound.

Doh, I mentally took the entire first line of your post and reversed the audigy/onboard bit.

You could try a different set of drivers in hope it's just a error in the mixer software, but I think you're probably SOL.

Maybe this can help:

Start > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Tab Voice > Click Test Hardware and see what happens...

Hardware test didn't work. No big deal since my new rig is now up and running. Thanks for the help.
