with both cpus... just sitting here not folding or anything

Anyone have a pair of identical ECC/registered DDR sticks of any size? The 1gb chips I'll be using for this are still too expensive (must be installed in pairs)... so it just sits there almost screaming 'I am 5.2 ghz and I feel alone, unused and unwanted ".

Whoever can donate a pair of working DDR chips can have the first month or so of folding on it while it gets it's burn in. If you can help out, just let me know.

5.2 GHz - I can't help sorry but I hope someone can

how much did that setup cost sans memory rit?

Somewhere around $500 (including 1 of the 2 needed 1gb DDR modules). That's just a hair over the retail cost of the motherboard alone. The reason it's so cheap is I get stuff from liquidators and 'off hours' or poorly worded eBay auctions that don't go as high as the seller would have liked. I always get motherboards and PSUs brand new, but everything else can be used as far as I'm concerned as long as they're from reputable sources. If a CPU works through burn-in, it will very likely work for 10 more years if treated right.

I have a box of a bunch of CPUs, motherboards, hard drives, and 1 or 2 more network cards. I should try to get them working again. It might be worth putting a few bucks into them for some cheap RAM or somthing. I'll give them a lookover this week.

Anything P3/Duron or better should be usable Going back any farther than that probably isn't practical though since the units may expire before they're done.

So I guess nobody's got a pair of leftover 128mb ECC DDR modules? I'm not going to spend $400 bucks more for a matching 1gb chip right now, so I guess I'll dump these parts

Try creating a thread asking at the GTF perhaps Ritsui, a lot more members will see that and maybe someone there can can help.
