OK, i have one ethernet wire run up to my room via a downstairs router. If i decide to get another PC to dedicate for folding, does it have to be connected to the net 24/7 or can i somehow get like 5+ WUs to fold and once a week hook the ethernet up to send them in. I tihnk you get my drift. Any way to do this without running another ethernet cable/splitter?

The simplest way may be to run 4 instances of the console version on that box.

Make four directories labeled

c:\folding-1
c:\folding-2
c:\folding-3
c:\folding-4

dump the fah4console.exe file into each directory then open a dos box

cd\folding-1

fah4console -configonly

Answer yes to advanced options and make the folding-1 dir machine ID #1

cd ..

cd folding-2 and do the same thing only make this dir machine # 2

Continue on until you have all four setup with machine ID's 1 to 4

make your short cuts so the consoles start on a reboot and away you go.

Warning...

Close ALL consoles before conecting to the net. For some reason I lost a lot of WU's when Folding in this manner when the connection was made. No idea why but better safe than sorry.

I place the four dos boxes in a neat grid using "properties" and voila!

Note, one can run up to 8 consoles at one time but unless you have a screaming demon of a box, four will suffice for the week.

Oh... Set all to "ask" permission to connect to the net as well so they don't keep trying to connect which wastes cpu time.

Let us know how it went.
