BIOS - I don't understand :(

I tried to update my bios tonight (always a scary thing). I used the ASUS update proggy and downloaded 1017 (too much of a wuss to install 1018 since it says its only beta). I flash the bios, all is good. I recheck the update (the proggy is updated now) and I realize there are different updates available based on which site i go to

If I go to the USA site, there is 1011, 1012 and 1013 all dated in 2002.

If I go to the dutch (?) or german (?) site (.de), then there is 1017 and 1018 listed.

So now I don't know if I have the right thing installed. When I looked at the USA info, it talks about all these bios rules.... When I installed 1017, I just exited the bios setup on startup without changing anything. But now I see it says something about "default settings" but I don't understand

All I know is now, Enemy Territory will not run. It fires up and now locks up. I suspect it has to do with this. I updated video and sound too but i assume they're ok....

Any advice?!? Thanks for any help

Here is the data from the proggy:

Most bios update programs will prompt you to save the previous bios before loading the new one so you can always go back. Did you do that?

No. I noticed later while playing with it, that that is one of the options in the pull down at the first screen. Altough, I only noticed it on the newer update of the proggy.

I did reset my bios to default. Dunno if that was a good thing to do. My system runs fine except for games locking up. I'm guessing that's more of a video driver issue. The latest video driver i installed last night gave me a Windows error cuz it wasn't compatible with Windows Logo - approved or whatever it means. So I then went and installed the second last drivers.

Too many changes at once I guess. But I still just don't understand why there are different bios updates depending what site I link to. How am I supposed to know which to update?

I fixed the lock up. It was the processor speed in the bios that had to be put back to 1667mhz. So I guess the update I used is okay. I sitll don't understand why each site has different versions available but at least my system is working now.
