Importing bitmap/dds files into UnrealEd(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)
Posted by: Rogue9
I've followed several tutorials on how to import bitmap/.dds files into UnrealEd to create textures, and everytime I attempt, the file that I imported doesn't show up. Sometimes, the entire host of packages that are currently loaded shows up under one whole list, and other times, it picks a random package to show. I use Photoshop CS for creating my texture files. I'm using the most recent version of UT2004.
Am I messing up something, or is there something else going wrong? I've also installed the game twice since I first got it.

importing should not be giving you that much trouble.
Have you tried checking the log (view -> log) after you've tried importing a texture. A possible cause for the problem might be printed there.
A common error is that the dimensions of the texture aren't powers of 2.

I fixed the first problem. The texture was 510x510 instead of 512x512. But I still can't import. This is what the log says: "Cmd: TEXTURE IMPORT FILE="C:\Games\Crate_Wood.bmp" NAME="Crate_Wood" PACKAGE="Crates" MIPS=1 MASKED=0 Alpha=0 NormalLOD=0
Log: FactoryCreateBinary: Texture with TextureFactory (0 0 C:\Games\Crate_Wood.bmp)
Log: BMP uses an unsupported format (1/32)
Log: Can't find file 'C:\Games\Crate_Wood.bmp' for import
Error: Import texture Crate_Wood from C:\Games\Crate_Wood.bmp failed."
Any ideas on this one?

unsupported BMP format?
What format is it?

It's a standard bitmap (*.bmp) format that I created in Adobe Photoshop.
Anyway, you inadvertently answered one of my other questions I hadn't posted yet, on why I couldn't save a bitmap file into a .dds file to import into UnrealEd. I didn't know that the file type was so picky about the dimensions of images.
Still, would like to know why bitmap wasn't importing for future knowledge.
One other question, is there a place here on tournament.com where I can upload a map for you guys to test it before I put it out for everyone to download?

If it's small enough you can attach it to a post, but the size is limited to 65536 bytes.
Other then that, you could upload it somewhere and throw the link in here. It will remain pretty private, as not that much people come here
