Did "The Hours" really deserve the Pulitzer prize?(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I read it before it was awarded the prize, and it is a very well written book. But my impression upon finishing it was that it wasn't simply an ode to Virginia Woolf, but an updated rewrite of Mrs. Dalloway.
I could imagine a Hollywood Movie Producer saying to a scriptwriter, "We want to do Mrs. Dalloway, but we want it updated for today's market. Make it significant to today's audience."
Technically a good book, but creatively it borrows too much from the woman it honors.
A good book. But Pulitzer worthy?

haven't read it, so can't agree or disagree...
but, now that you've brought the topic up, what are the qualifications for a pulitzer prize nomination (and why the heck haven't they nominated you??)

Anyone can submit a book for consideration, but the review board has no standard guidelines by which they judge books.
And the reason none of mine have been nominated is because they all suck.

Looks like I'll add 'The Hours' to my list

In that case, I'll be arrogant and say you have good taste.

No biggie, I mailed a copy of A.V. to ErMandez while she was in Alaska, it traveled with her back to Phoenix, then back up to Washington before she finally read it.

I assume you've read Mrs. Dalloway, but if you haven't, read it before "The Hours."

Thanks, I haven't read Mrs. Dalway so I'll add that to the top of my list
