WinXP SP2 and networking(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

OK, so I'm on a university network and there's a program available known as sharescan. It basically scans the network and lets you search through and download any shared files on the network. Usually, I'll admit, it is used for sharing of music and movies. Right now I want to use it to be able to access some of my files from my gf's computer on the other side of campus. Anyway, the problem is that recently its only been able to pick up a small portion of the computers on the network. It works by scanning an IP range, and its currently only picking up addresses with the fist 9 digits in common.
For instance, it would pick up
142.156.124.xxx
and not
142.156.125.xxx
etc.
(my address is in the first set)
This only started happening a couple weeks ago, so my theory is its SP2 related. Its also server side, cause my computer stopped finding files with IP addresses that don't share 9 digits with mine while i still had xp1, and had made no system changes. This has happened on a number of other computers as well.
Anyway, any ideas for how to get around this?

Mucking with your host/s file/s may help. Did for me with some GUI chat proggies that would not run on Win 2K.
