I don't know wtf they put in the latest XFire patch, but while I'm playing CS:S, I'll get an occasional pop-up window which boots me out of the game. 
So I might turn off XFire while playing.
I always go to NumbNutz server first, but if it crashes, I go to my backups:

These servers are always up, almost always populated. Always de_dust, that's the only drawback.
