You can do NOTHING in Vacation Mode, that's right, NOTHING. Do review the benefits and deficits:
Benefits
Protection -- If you're constantly attacked by an annoying alliance, they can't attack you no more until you're out of the system.
Annoying -- If you really want, you can attack and then protect so they can't strike back. No biggy though, so don't complain if people are doing this to you. The only gold they get is from when they attack and that isn't enough for them to have their offense high enough. If a person can murder you with this move, reset your account or camp now--lest you be very disappointed in the long run.
Deficits
Income -- NONE. No gold per turn, no attack 'turns' per turn.
Citizens -- NONE. That's right, nothing from the recruiter.

how do i get into vacation mode?
Go to Main -> Settings, scroll all the way to the bottom, and click the middle button.
That brings you to a page with more info about vacation mode, and a button to click if you still want to do it.
You have to be in vacation mode for a minimum of 5 days, so make sure you really want to do it before clicking the button...
