Daughter of Fortune: Isabel Allende(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I'm a big fan of Isabel Allende (author of The House of the Spirits), so I decided to read Daughter of Fortune over the holidays.
I guess you'd call it historical romance, as the novel takes place during and after the Gold Rush of 1849. Characters from various parts of the world converge in California, each with their own goals.
Some may say the ending is too abrupt, but I can see why the author ended the story there. There's also a sequel, Portrait in Sepia, which fills in some gaps.

If you haven't read any of her books, I'd start with The House of the Spirits then The Infinite Plan.

I have one of her books on hold at the library.

Which one?

A young adult adventure novel. La Ciudad de las Bestias (City of Beasts). I think that's the first in a series of three.

I'm still waiting on that book. Most of the highways are closed so the library hasn't gotten a shipment in over a month. I just started reading The Infinite Plan yesterday. That's another book of her's. So far it's pretty good.

Yep, I recommend that and "House of the Spirits."

Yeah, that was a good one. It's been such a long time since I read it, I may have to pick it up again sometime. I'm really enjoying The Infinite Plan. I can identify with the atmosphere of it and especially with Gregory's sister Judy. I grew up in very much the same kind of neighborhood as they did and had similar problems as Judy, so it really strikes a chord with me.
