Remember that each grid square in the game is about 2 feet on a side. I've had the best luck working from a plan using those dimensions.

I built the framing for the house and placed the doors, interior walls and windows in place. It won't be an exact replica, but it will keep me happily filling with stuff though  Thanks for the 2' = 1 grid hint.

Nice House. Upload it when you're done so I can see it firsthand. So is there anyplace online where you can find good floorplans? I'm more of a downloader than an uploader but I'd like to make some really nice houses.

Of the house? I started it. Then I bulldozed it. Then I restarted it. I am going to move then and start over again. I can't quite get a split level on the bottom floor. Is that possible?

Split levels are possible, But you need to excavate and place a basement piece. It's tricky!
