I just finished the final book in the Abhorsen trilogy.

The three books in the series are as follows:

Sabriel
Lirael
Abhorsen

The author is Garth Nix.

Apparently it took him something like 8 years to write them all. Sabriel was supposed to be one book. Then it turned into a trilogy.

The story is great. It involves necromancers which raise the dead for use in their world conspiracy and the abhorsen who puts the dead to rest. The abhosen has a belt of 7 bells they wear. Each bell serves a different purpose and affects the dead in different ways. The Abhorsen is at odds with the necromancers of the world.

The magic system in the books is good. I like the way its done. Its called the Charter and is based on symbols tought of by the caster and set forth into the world.

The story is good. I really enjoyed the characters. Mogget was particularly enjoyable. Althought this series is rated 9-12 or wahtever for fictoin, its highly appealing to adults too.

I highly recommend this series. If you like His Dark Materials by Pullman, this is similar but not as complex a world.
