ASUS A8N SLI motherboard and bigass fans?(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Small question: does anyone of you tech-savvy people out there know what size CPU-fan will fit on an ASUS A8N SLI-deluxe motherboard? I was thinking of buying a 120 mm NorthQ or Zalman CPU cooler with my new system.

Are you talking about the chipset on the motherboard, or the CPU?
120mm is for a case, not a motherboard.
/edit. Dur. It's early in the morning....
Anyways, the CPU-fan size is completely dependent on the heatsink you choose to install on your computer. They range from 80mm to 90ish (92mm seems to be the most common.)
go to www.newegg.com (I know you don't live in the US and won't be able to order anything from here but it's still useful information) and then check out the hardware section, search by catagory, and then choose "Fans and related"

Heh. Not paying attention to the times? 120 mm is the name of the game nowadays
I was thinking of getting a combined heatsink/fan setup, either this one or this one. The fan is 120 mm diameter, the entire get-up is 136-138 mm diameter, so I'm simply not sure whether it will fit with the motherboard.
Another point I'm concerned about is the weight. The lightest of these is 460 grams, and since the motherboard will be mounted vertically (ATX midi-tower case) I'm a bit concerned with whether the motherboard can take that kind of weight or not.

I have a computer, lol
...
I have an ASUS A7V333 mobo and the Zalman flower cooler and fan fit OK

Get the Zalman one. If you look here, you will see that your mobo is supported. http://www.zalman.co.kr/product/coo...0MBlist_eng.htm

The designers take the weight into consideration when they make the heatsink, just make sure it is mounted onto the socket securely.
I'm personally not a fan of those huge spiral heatsinks ...Just too big for my taste. I typically stick with the average size ones with heat pipes .
It looks like the one Veky posted though is exactly what you're looking for & is compatible with your motherboard.

Yep, looks like I'll end up with the Zalman one (I can't even find anyone who actually bothers to import the NorthQ fan here in Norway, despite the fact that the manufacturer is Danish).
Austin: I like the bigger fans because they're fairly quiet and give good cooling without all the fuss of hauling a water tank around when I'm moving the PC anywhere.

Dokteur Kill, you may get a better answer here, not that the peeps here aren't any good.
I can't answer your question, sorry.

Heatpipes just as well basically . It's pointless though because it's a preference and each person is allowed to have their own... I just don't like a huge bulky heatsinks covering up 1/4th of my motherboard

Update: I went for the Zalman cooler. The computer is assembled, and runs like an expensive swiss watch
CPU temperature (Athlon 64XP 3800 with Cool n' Quiet activated) is usually between 30 and 40 celcius (depending on load and ambient temperature), and it makes less noise than my old P2-350 ever did. In short: I'm happy

Disable cool n quiet. It will become a problem down the road. Specially if you try to overclock. Which, you should try to get 220mhz on the FSB for a speed of 2.6Ghz. Should be able to do it pretty easy on that board and chip.

I have the Thermaltake Silent Boost 8 on my 3500+@3800+ speeds and it is idle at 28-29C. I have cool n quiet disabled. Can't really say it does anything but when I have it on I can't get my higher clocks.
