We were renting a condo for almost a year and towards the end of the lease we found a house we really liked in a much better part of town.
We still had a month on our lease and had just planned on forking out the $1100 rent just to be done with it, but the owner suggested (much to both of our benefits) that we sublease for the remaining month and a half.
I put out an ad that matched her specifications, found tenants and much more all on my own time.
For some reason, the subleasees' and the owner did not get along at all and had a falling out, leaving Enigma and myself stuck in the middle.
So, our subleasees' moved out yesterday, we had the place professionally cleaned, Enigma shampooed the carpets again and the place is absolutely spotless.
I've sent the owner three different e-mails updating her on the condition of the condo and asking her when we could expect our $1100 security deposit and $300 pet deposit back. She answers everything else but that question.
I think she's going to try to stiff us (because she's cheap and selfish), even though she doesn't have a leg to stand on.
Ugh.

If it's been more than 30 days since the end of your lease, and you still haven't gotten the pet deposit back, it's time for a registered letter. Or perhaps toss a brick-laden trash bag of "pet deposit" through her living room window.
