Attempting to learn some Japanese(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have an audio book Japanese course, and have done a few lessons. It's easier than you might think, although any discussion beyond "do you understand English?" is beyond me.
Hopefully I can stick with it. I doubt I could ever get fluent enough to not have to read the subtitles in anime though.

You can learn a lot merely by listening carefully to the dubs and comparing it with the subs.. That''s how I got my basic Japanese (studying Japanese language and culture recently)

I use both methods. Pimsleur CDs on my iPod at work, and comparing audio to subs to recognize key phrases and their usages. Too many people try to learn the words without the structure behind the language.
[edit] I'd feel better if I could write it though

It's going okay, but it can certainly be tough to tell where one word stops and another starts. I could fumble through a simple conversation if someone was patient with me.

I have started to learn the Japanese as well, however i'm taking the route of learning how to read write and speak it. A fucking slow process but i'm almost done with the first alphabet.

Which one? Hiragana or Katakana?

I only have one lesson left in the first batch of 30, but I haven't been paying much attention to it, and I'm not following along very well. I'll probably start over.
