Ok, I don't mind if an employee of my company has, say, a messaging problem. That they get an NDR when they try to send a mail to one of our parent companies or an external user. Of course I'll be there to try to troubleshoot and track the e-mails to find out where the problem is.

But why in gods name does everyone ask me to troubleshoot the issues when a person from one of our parent companies can't send an e-mail to us? You would think someone would understand a proper escalation procedure, by contacting their local Exchange admins to do a message tracking and analysing the problem by reviewing NDR's.

Oh but no, of course not! They're going to call me and say "I can't send mail to this and that".

Well whoop de doo, first of all, who are you? Oh, you're not an employee of my company! So, what is your exact problem, what does the NDR say, did you type their SMTP address correctly?!? Oh wait, what's that you say, the NDR says that the error is xxx and yyy, oh I'm sorry, but the error is reported by a server that is not MINE, I can't do a THING!?! Have you considered contacting YOUR IT support team to see if they can decipher this problem??? What, you mean no, because you're not able to send a mail to my company, so it's automatically MY PROBLEM!!!

AAAAARGH

It's always the same thing

Ah there are stupid people everywhere. I guess they just expect that if the mail isn't sent then it is the fault of the exchange server they were sending to. We have the very same issue where I work, but really we end up telling them that they need to speak with there IT department and if there is an issue they can call us after they check internally.

Most of the time we end up having a pretty big laugh about how retarded the person is and have a good day long job at there expense
