It's a commonly-known bit of business ethics that if you advertise a position and an applicant goes to the trouble of submitting their info, that you owe them a response. Even a form letter. I have applied at many places over the years, and ALWAYS gotten a response. From Pixar down to tiny 3-person shops.
A local company advertised for a 3d artist, and even though I'm not looking, I'd like to know more, so I emailed my resume as instructed in the ad. Nothing. One month later I snail-mailed my original information, plus a new cover sheet, plus a few samples of new work. Nothing. Another month passes. I email the HR person at the company asking for an update. Every correspondence is brief, professional, and to the point. Nothing. I'm beginning to suspect that this is not an institution instilled with the highest degree of personal consideration.

I'm getting the cold shoulder from the company I'm already working for and I think it's because HR is shitcanning my aps before they get to the higher ups and I don't even know why. I have every "basic qualification", every "prefered qualification" and every "... would be a plus." And I've yet to even rate a fucking INTERVIEW! I'm starting to suspect blackballing or some kind of discrimination.
I applied for 3 engineering jobs - one was kinda "entry level" engineer, barely a technician; one was mid-level, lotta troubleshooting quality problems; the other was high-level, aerospace component design.
I figured the latter I could DO but I might not have a chance of getting it. They actually sent me an email asking me some additional questions. Almost the second I sent my reply, "We're sorry we've filled the position". 
The entry-level one I could do in my damn sleep. I've done more complicated shit with my dad when I was 10 years old, helping him build a satelite dish and receiver from the soldering of the components on up. Got a rejection letter. No questions. Not even a fuckin' interview. 
The middle one I still haven't heard from at all and it's been just over 2 months.
Starting to piss me off. I honestly don't mean to sound egotistical but the job they have me in now, while I'm thankful to have a job, does not even begin to scratch the surface of my education or abilities. What this company does, is what I've been doing for the last 25 of my 35 years of life ... and I'm doing "high school graduate/GED, entry-level" work (and I'm not putting that down, I'm just saying that I have a college degree and a quarter century of tech experience ... and this is a tech company ... hellooooooo  ). I can do these damn engineering jobs and I can be one of the best ones they have. I've seen the other guys - they ask MY opinion and advice on shit! I've solved problems they've been beating their heads against the walls over for 20+ years! ... and I've solved it! ... but they won't listen to me because I'm just a pissant!
GRAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!

Seriously, someone's cousin is probably in line for the job. You'll have to hold their hand once they realize they're in over their head. You need to schmooze the upper management. Run into them in the elevator, find out what their priority issues are, and solve them during the course of the ride with nothing but a paperclip and a calculator watch. That'll show them.

Don't worry, it's become common practice. I've sent off my cv to about 20 different ads over the last few months and only one of them has gotten back to me at all.

In Switzerland, only a third of the companies (or less) bother to reply to any letters you send to them. Pretty sh1tty...
